Threadless has a new T-shirt titled "Music Snob", depicting a list of improbable obscurer-than-thou musical genres:
Looking at the design, I was thinking about how improbable these genres really are, and trying to think of real-world examples of some of them. Ones I came up with are:
- Instrumental Hip-hop: That's an easy one: the Beastie Boys' last album qualifies, as do the likes of DJ Shadow and such.
- Goth-Pop could be The Cure, Marilyn Manson or any dark-tinged commercial alternative (Evanescence, anyone?), depending on how one interprets "pop". And "goth".
- Gangsta Lounge: Frank Sinatra, obviously.
- Ambient Metal: weren't they into that sort of thing in Norway a while ago?
- Indie Klezmer: the next Beirut album perhaps?
